The Braitmayer Foundation
Application Deadlines:
For grants up to $35,000: June 1 each year

Description: The foundation is interested in K-12 education throughout the United States. Of particular interest are:
Guidelines: The foundation is pleased to have its grants used as seed money and challenge grants, or to match other grants to the recipient organization. The foundation does not normally make grants to individuals, multiyear grants, grants for endowment purposes or building programs, or grants to child-care or pre-kindergarten programs.
Funding Amount: Presently, the foundation has two grant categories: grants up to $10,000 and grants up to $35,000.

Surdna Foundation
Application Deadline: There are no formal deadlines to apply for funding. The Surdna Foundation accepts applications on an ongoing basis. However, grants are approved three times per year: in February, May, and September. Applicants should make their requests three to four months ahead of time for staff review.
Description: The Surdna Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations in the areas of environment, community revitalization, effective citizenry, the arts, and the nonprofit sector.
Who May Apply: Nonprofit organizations must generally have a valid tax exemption status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and be classified as a public charity and not as a "private foundation" under Section 509(a). The foundation does not generally make grants to government and public agencies, or to individuals.

Home Depot Foundation -- Affordable Housing Built Responsibly

Description: The Home Depot Foundation makes grants to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charities in the United States and to charitable organizations in Canada. Support is given to programs and projects that align with the foundation's mission and grant criteria. Preference is given to proposals that include community engagement; result in the production, preservation, or financing of housing units for low- to moderate-income families; and address as many of the following considerations as possible:
Who May Apply: The Home Depot Foundation will only fund nonprofit organizations that are designated as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in the United States or that have a notification of registration and confirmation of registration from the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency Charities Division in Canada.

The Commonwealth Fund
Application Deadline: The Commonwealth Fund requests letters of inquiry to initiate the grant application process. Letters of inquiry are accepted on a rolling basis; there are no deadlines.
Description: The Commonwealth Fund's mission is to promote a high-performing health-care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater efficiency -- particularly for society's most vulnerable members, including low-income people, uninsured people, minority Americans, young children, and elderly adults. The fund carries out this mandate by supporting independent research on health-care issues and making grants to improve health-care practice and policy. An international program in health policy is designed to stimulate innovative policies and practices in the United States and other industrialized countries.
Who May Apply: The fund makes grants only to tax-exempt organizations and public agencies.
